Rest for Resilience

Resilience is the act of rebounding. It is a kind of buoyancy in life that operates with a different kind of air: rest.

We don’t become more resilient by endlessly hustling, grinding, and pushing. We become more resilient when we take breaks (even short ones) before trying again.

Rest is an essential aspect of cultivating resilience. This doesn’t necessarily mean 2-week vacations or 3-hour naps. Rest is a daily practice that may look different depending on your situation and season of life.

Rest might look like:

  • saying no

  • going for a walk

  • sitting still

  • appreciating nature

  • signing off social media for a bit

  • reading a book

  • savoring food

  • taking a nap

  • stopping when the task/project is good enough

  • listening to music

  • playing a game

  • snuggling with a loved one or pet

  • turning off the TV/radio

  • breathing deeply

To reflect today: What does rest look like for you right now?
